How to read it

  • Rated L/day and conditions. Headline capacity and the test it was measured under. Ratings at 30 °C, 80% RH are best-case numbers. See why ratings don't match real life.
  • At 20 °C, 60% RH. Output in a cooler, drier room, where the maker publishes it. This is the fairest way to compare.
  • Max power. The figure we use for running costs. Real bills are often lower because humidistats cycle the unit off. See running costs.
  • Noise. The maker's range, usually low to high fan speed. Quiet matters most in bedrooms.
  • Tank. A bigger tank means fewer trips to empty it, unless you use a hose drain.

Narrowing it down

  • Heated living space, laundry: a compressor model is usually cheaper to run. See compressor vs desiccant.
  • Cold room, garage or unheated space: a desiccant model keeps working when it is cold, but uses more power.
  • Not sure what capacity you need? Use the sizer, which shows the working.
